About this artwork
American studio potter Warren MacKenzie makes simple, functional pieces that respond to the ceramic tradition as both art and craft. MacKenzie studied ceramics at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he met his first wife, Alix. After marrying, the couple trained in England with famed potter Bernard Leach, absorbing his beliefs about the close relationship between life and work as well as the need for objects of both utility and beauty. Establishing a studio in Stillwater, Minnesota, MacKenzie has perfected an efficient production process that has allowed him to sell handmade goods at affordable prices.
