About this artwork
Beginning about 1898, Alfred Fehr studied textile technology and management at Reutlingen University in southern Germany. He kept a careful record of his studies with this notebook, which includes extensive, beautifully handwritten notes, weaving diagrams for a variety of structures, and fabric swatches. After completing his education, Fehr returned to Switzerland and made a career as technical manager of a weaving factory. The notebook was donated by his granddaughter.
