About this artwork
Jonathan Muecke often works in limited editions of what he calls “Open Objects.” These works conform to traditional furniture forms while also retaining a sense of indeterminacy. The CS or Coiled Stool combines traditional basketmaking techniques, 19th-century explorations with composite tubes, and high-tech materials and processes. Made from a single length of fiber tubing coiled in a wooden mold, also on view here, and fixed with epoxy resin, each stool is one piece with a continuous structure and surface.
