About this artwork

Onchi Kōshirō used his own hand to make this print—one of only two in the edition—and reportedly viewed it as an early experiment in not using woodblocks. He created the “shapeless things” of the title with cloth dipped in a blue-gray ink and string dipped in brown, while his hand may signify “affection.”
