About this artwork
In 1963, Johns began a series of prints that featured his own body parts as their principal imagery. As with Pinion, the artist spent more time than usual completing these prints. This print closely echoes a 1962 drawing, Study for Skin I. Prophetically, Johns included a poem by Frank O’Hara, who would die in 1966.
