Shannon Palmer is the project manager in Communications at the Art Institute of Chicago. She first joined the museum in 2016 as an intern in Learning and Public Engagement and returned in 2017 to join Students and Educators, also in Learning and Public Engagement, rising to become coordinator of educator programs and resources. In this role she functioned as a writer, educator, and project manager, producing educator resources and programming geared toward Chicago Public Schools. Her equity work at the museum has ranged from taking part in the reinvention of student tours and coordinating community-based focus groups to organizing for the Black Caucus and serving as co-chair on the MASS Action team, Equity Steering Committee, and Equity Forum.
Prior to her time at the Art Institute, Shannon was a program assistant at the University of Michigan Museum of Art. She holds a bachelor of arts in history of art and sociology from the University of Michigan.
