Virtual Member Lecture: Nazca Lines—Outlines as Throughlines in Nazca Art | January 26, 2021

Andrew Hamilton, associate curator of Arts of the Americas, discusses the role of lines in Nazca art, from strikingly large geoglyphs to distinctive ceramics. Occasioned by the recent discovery of a new Nazca Line geoglyph and richly illustrated with works from the Art Institute’s permanent collection, this talk explores the graphic style that Nazca artists developed over the first half of the first millennium CE in what is now the south coast of Peru.
